The Problem: Google's retail product sales primarily came from third party stores such as Best Buy, B&H and Staples. The Google Retail Team discovered that the sales associates at these brick and mortar stores were not knowledgeable about Google products which resulted in lower sales.
The Solution: We came up with the idea to launch an incentived training program called Google Train Up that turns retail sales associates into Google product experts. Google Train Up is a fully responsive web and native Android app built and designed for the associates. The app consists of three main sections for the associate to engage with: Products, Training, and Rewards. The product section is a useful product and service library that served as a quick answer tool for when customers had questions. The Training section is a leveled system of lessons and quizzes that resulted in rewards. We used a fun, googly illustration style to bring life and color to the training material as well as the overall look and feel of the Train Up Brand.
My Role: Senior Designer. I worked closely with another UX designer, visual designer, illustrator and design director to create the look and feel, brand and responsive site/app design. We worked in Sketch and followed Material Design, which was brand new at the time. This project was developed in house by our team and was a 2yr long journey with a beta release, extensive user testing, full release and optimization track based off user feedback and sales data collected in partnership with the Google team.
